Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

South Oakleigh Secondary College received funding of 3,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy and provide additional habitat for native fauna.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

On Tuesday 18th October we held a Commemorative Tree Planting event to celebrate the late Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

We would like to thank Clarinda MP Meng Heang Tak MP for his attendance and participation in presenting the Commemorative Plaque to our School Captains, as well as Huntingdale Primary School`s  Principal Ruth Biddle and their School Captains for attending.

The Queen’s love of nature and gardens prompted the idea for the Queens Green Canopy. Throughout Her reign, The Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world and has spoken alongside Sir David Attenborough of the importance of trees in the Earth’s future. The Queen’s Green Canopy aims to encourage everyone to learn more about the best way to plant trees so that they survive and flourish for years to come.
