Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

OC Connections Limited, received funding of $4,185 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees at four sites, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will provide shade, improve community wellbeing and enhance habitat for bird life.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Earlier this year OC Connections was successful in securing a tree-planting grant in recognition of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, 70th Jubilee. This project received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.

A tree planting ceremony was held on Wednesday, 23 November at the 773 Warrigal Road facilities; OC Connections’ Day Support participants, staff and executives were amongst those invited to the event. OC Connections Chair, Tom Baxter, planted one of the two trees at the formal ceremony with the assistance of two very enthusiastic OC Connections Day Support participants, Alison and Laurel.

4 additional trees will be planted across 3 of OC Connections community living housing sites in the coming weeks. The program complements OC Connections’ environmental initiative to continue a positive impact on climate change by expanding its green footprint.

Last year OC Connections received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queens’s Jubilee Program. The grant enabled OC Connections to plant several trees at our Warrigal Road location and at 3 of our community living houses; Rockbeare, Dealing and Delia.

It was great to get the residents involved in the tree-planting ceremonies and have both staff and residents come together to enjoy some morning tea! We look forward to seeing the trees flourish over the next few years. Thank you to all staff and participants who supported this initiative.
