Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Taylors Lakes Lions Club, received funding of $15,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees in the area, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy and support revegetation of the area.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

PLANTING TREES FOR THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE
We were pleased to be able to finally launch our Queen's Jubilee Tree Planting project today, at the Queen Victoria
Reserve in Taylors Lakes. We were very appreciative of the involvement of Nicole Camilleri (representing the Federal Member for Gorton, Brendan O'Connor), Natalie Hutchins, State Member for Sydenham, and Bruce Lancashire, the Mayor of Brimbank, as well his deputy, Ranka Rasic - each of whom addressed the group, paid tribute to the Queen and recognised the importance of tree planting and the value of volunteering.

After receiving a grant of $15,000 as part of this Federal Initiative, designed to honour the Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee and in memory of her service to the Commonwealth, we will eventually plant some 500-600 trees around Taylors Lakes, with our first target the Queen Victoria Reserve. We know the value of tree canopies for aesthetic improvement, shade, carbon sequestration and enhancing health and well-being and we we are pleased to be able to make this contribution.
