Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Geelong Lutheran College received funding of $5,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees at Geelong Lutheran College, install a commemorative sign and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the area and attract and support native wildlife.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

We were excited to unveil the official plaque for our new 'Forest', thanks to a Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee Program grant. With the funding from the Australian Government's grant program, trees have been planted at the back of the oval to create 'The Forest'. Students from Prep and Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in the planting, and joined our Primary Captains, Head of College Jill Lange-Mohr OAM, Principal Sue Ellis, and Deputy Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong Cr. Anthony Aitken -City of Greater Geelong - Windamere Ward to unveil the plaque.

Along with a planned Jubilee Avenue near Burvilles Road, these trees commemorate Her Majesty, The Queen's Platinum Jubilee of 70 remarkable years of service, right up until her passing in September. In addition to being a lasting reminder of The Queen's service, the Forest will also become a great learning environment for future students, where they can explore a range of outdoor learning experiences.
