Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Growing Winchelsea Inc., received funding of $18,182 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy, beautify the area and improve community wellbeing.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

It is with great pleasure that we can share with you the news that our application under the Federal Government’s grant programme, Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee, has been successful.

Thank you to everyone for your contribution, however large or small, to the success of this application.  During this process we forged strong new connections and strengthened existing relationships and we are very grateful for the time, patience and expertise willingly given.

For those of you who are unaware, this grant forms part of the $100k that was made available to each Federal Electorate under the program.  Specifically our grant will be applied to the planting of approximately 60 Corymbia Citriodora, Lemon Scented Gums, along Mercer and Barkly Sts., Winchelsea, to be contiguous with those existing in Barkly St. We will continue our community engagement as the project progresses.  The project includes many milestones including a Celebration and Opening of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Avenue, planned for the afternoon of the 2nd of December, World Pollution Prevention Day.  Please mark this date in your calendars.
