Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Print Page Print this page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Aitken College Limited received funding of $20,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant an avenue of trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy and provide additional habitat for native fauna.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Aitken College has been proud to participate in the ‘Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee’ program. This week, the College welcomed Ms Maria Vamvakinou MP, the Federal Labor Member for Calwell to dedicate the project, along with Principal, Mrs Josie Crisara OAM and some of our College leaders.

To mark the Jubilee (70 years of service) of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, the Federal Government provided funding across the nation. The College added to this funding to plant 22 Quercus trees along the entrance driveway into the school, creating an avenue of honour.
The addition will create a tree canopy, increasing the biodiversity of the area. This will create a microclimate, such as shade, wind protection and temperature control, providing habitat and food source for our wildlife in an ever-increasing housing development suburb.
