Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Veterans Cricket Tasmania (Inc) received funding of $20,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees at Ross Recreational Ground, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen's Jubilee. This will beautify the grounds and provide shade for the community.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

QUEENS JUBILEE TREE PLANTING PROGRAM
[message from Rod Headlam]
Just writing to let you know we've moved up a peg or two; from the removal of capeweed to the planting of trees at Ross.
VCTAS has received confirmation that it will receive $20 000 to plant 70 advanced trees at the ground.
Next week I'm hoping to meet with Council & the Community Club to clarify location & planting plans. Council has confirmed they will assist with the whole process but of course there will be a need for some assistance from many of you.
I'll let you know about the proposed tasks, timetable asap. I'm hoping we can have planting underway mid to late July.

Over the past two days the weather gods were on our side long enough to prepare the Ross turf for the coming season, get some tidying up done and plant the trees around the ground to commemorate the Queen's Jubilee. Very fitting to have the task completed at this time.

Many thanks to Rod, Paul, Steve, Roger, Anne, Sam, Bill, Marty and the Northern Midlands Council crew for the great effort over two days to get the job done before the rain started again. Some steady showers overnight finished off the plantings and pitch preparation nicely.
