Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page Print this page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

The City of Burnside received funding of $20,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant a parkland of trees at Lamden Lane, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the area and enhance the tree canopy.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the first of a batch of trees have been planted within Seaforth Avenue Reserve, Hazelwood Park. This is the first stage of an ongoing program throughout 2022 and 2023. These English Oaks will mature over 50 to 100 years up to 15 metres tall.

This project is jointly funded through the City of Burnside and the Australian Government's Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee Program, in honour of Her Majesty's 70 years of service as Australia's Head of State.
