Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
Hindmarsh Island Landcare Group received funding of $20,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant corridors of native trees, install a commemorative sign and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will extend native bushland and reconnect island habitats.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
This week I have had the pleasure of attending three commemorative events held by groups who received funding through the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee grant round. Despite living what appeared to be an extravagant lifestyle from the public viewpoint, the late Queen never lost her true love of the natural environment. It was hoped that by planting trees in her honour this legacy would live on in a lasting and environmentally beneficial way. So congratulations to the Hindmarsh Island Landcare Group Inc, Port Elliott Community Garden and the Macclesfield Community Association, I look forward to watching your projects grow and thrive well into the future.
