Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

A ceremonial planting of a Eucalyptus dalrympleana in January 2023 will be followed up with plantings during the coming winter.

Goolwa to Wellington Local Action Planning Association received funding of $10,084 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant endangered native trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance biodiversity conservation and encourage greater community participation.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Recently we held a commemorative tree planting at Kyeema Conservation Park, as part of the Australian Government's Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee Program.

GWLAP have been revegetating and recreating habitat at Kyeema since 2007 with more than 20,000 plants installed at the Kyeema Old Prison Farm through our programs. An important park that links with Kuitpo Forest and Christmas Hill Native Forest Reserve, the park hosts important fauna like Rosenberg's Goanna and has many flora species of conservation significance. Kyeema is a great example of the power of collaboration between Government, community groups, volunteers and NGO's who have all contributed and worked together in this park over the years. The event was attended by Rangers from National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia and Forestry SA, members of the Toyota Landcruiser Club of Australia (S.A,) Inc., and GWLAP staff.
