Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page Print this page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

The project received funding of $9,820 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees by a student group, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will revegetate the area and enhance the tree canopy.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

In honour of the Platinum Jubilee (70 years of service) of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, 18 silver myrtle trees were planted at St William`s Grovely earlier this year by over 50 P&F members. On Wednesday the school held a commemorative ceremony to recognise these trees & dedicated plaque, with special guests Cr Andrew Wines & P&F executive committee members in attendance.

“These trees will provide great shade for our students and continue to enhance this wonderful oval. They also help with St William’s commitment to sustainability which is important in all that the school does." said Principal Nick Fogarty.
This project received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.
