Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page Print this page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

The project received funding of $6,703 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native and fruit trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will provide habitat for native fauna and create sustainable food sources.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

To commemorate the Her Majesty, late Queen Elizabeth II, for reaching the Platinum Jubilee milestone earlier this year, our school received a "Tree Planting" grant to mark this special occasion. We would like to thank Luke Howarth,  Federal member for Petrie, for coming out today to help turn the soil in preparation for the planting.

It's important to note that Her Majesty, late Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on 8 September 2022, however she had reached the Platinum Jubilee milestone in June 2022, so it is appropriate for the Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee program to continue in her honour. The objective of the program is to mark the significant occasion of Her Majesty’s Jubilee through community tree planting events across Australia. The program also intends to:
- increase community awareness and celebration of Her Majesty’s Jubilee
- create a legacy of tree plantings across the nation
- increase and/or enhance the area of tree canopy.
