Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

Friends of Currumbin and Tugun Progress Association between them received grants of $38,500 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees in three stages in Kropp Park in Pacific Parade and also along the Tugun- Bilinga Oceanway.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

Two of our great local community groups, Friends of Currumbin and Tugun Progress Association, have teamed up for the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee program! I take great pride in this initiative as a member of the former government that created this particular grants program. Today I congratulated the community groups and spoke to the media about the positive impact that this program will have on our southern Gold Coast. $38k will put but to great use by Friends of Currumbin and the Tugun Progress association, in conjunction with local council. This will enhance our environment, provide shade, and continue the phenomenal legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
