Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page
The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
Myall Park Botanic Garden Limited received funding of $6,600 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will improve community well-being and enhance the tree canopy.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
The first tree has taken root in a project to turn the grounds of Kumbia’s CWA rooms into a small urban woodland with a right royal touch. The $6600 project is being funded by a Federal Government grant under the Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee Program.
Kumbia CWA branch president Catherine Woodham planted the little banksia in front of the branch’s home at a small ceremony on 29 December.
Mrs Woodham said the greening of the Bell Street site, which will revamp the existing front garden and include a tree corridor at the rear, would provide an attractive, shady space for CWA members, other groups and visitors to use. “The plantings will also improve the street appeal and beautify the area overall,” she said, adding the project was part of the preparations for the branch’s centenary next year. “This is the first of two special events we will hold to celebrate the late Queen’s Jubilee,” she said.
The funding will cover the planting and mulching of about 40 trees known to thrive in the local environment, as well as the establishment of an irrigation system. Existing trees will be retained and the rear fence extended. The project, which is expected to be completed by December 2023, will be undertaken by a local contractor.
The Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last September, was celebrated during 2022.
