Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
The project received funding of $11,614 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees around the public viewing platform, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will support the revegetation of the area and enhance the tree canopy.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
Join us for the Commemorative Opening and Tree Planting for the Queen’s Jubilee.
Council received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II - 70 years of service as Australia’s Monarch. The planting of a native tree and formal garden at Fred Heard Memorial Park in Halifax will complement the existing street scape and enhance shade at the local park.
It is the intent that the new feature project will have an impact on both residents and tourists and will assist in creating a more appealing park for locals and motorists to admire.
In addition, the Herbert River Catchment and Landcare Group (HRCLG) have also sourced funding from the same program and will deliver native trees planted at the Viewing Tower located on Kangaroo Street Dungeness. The HRCLG is encouraging any volunteers to come along and assist with planting, remembering to bring closed in shoes, hat, and sunscreen.
Commemorative openings for both sites will be held on Thursday 10 November 2022.
