Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page
The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
The project received funding of $10,080 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees, install a commemorative sign and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will support the revegetation of the area and provide additional habitat for native fauna.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
On Saturday 22nd October, 25 people gathered to plant 720 native plants at the Gibson Island Rehabilitation Project site at Murarrie. This planting was supported through funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.
Codex Consulting funded 400 of the plants and also showed up with numbers and enthusiasm. Equally enthusiastic were their friends from Hortum Landscaping. They were also joined by B4C volunteers. The Gibson Island Rehabilitation Project was launched in 2018 and was where B4C also launched its Industrial Landcare concept.
Great support from Brisbane industries has enabled what started as an unfunded project to complete 3.5ha of riparian revegetation. We still have 3ha to go to get to the end of Gibson Island. We encourage industries to contact us to help us achieve this through sponsorship.
Guests were treated to a visit by Angela of Queensland Koala Society (QKS). Angela presented on the work of QKS rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife and brought along some native animals. Participants got to get up close to an echidna, tawny frog mouth babies and squirrel glider twin babies.
We have previously worked with Hortum at Salvin Creek too. B4C’s Wayne Cameron said our relationship with them is to grow further with a plan to establish a partnership. “We are pleased this professional team [Hortum] have chosen us as future partners to provide their in-kind support to projects like Gibson Island,” Wayne said.
Hortum is a vibrant team of skilled tradespeople, who provide end to end landscape services covering design, construction and maintenance across residential and commercial projects.
Codex consulting provide strategic business advice, digital and data expertise and business and research planning and insights. Their funding for this event was crucial to its success.
Working with Hortum, Codex Consulting and other industrial landcare partners, is an example of how corporate volunteering can build teamwork and enthusiasm inside a professional business, while benefiting the wider community.
