The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State. 

The project received funding of $15,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will provide habitat for native fauna and enhance the tree canopy.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.  

A beautiful day in the Somerset Region to plant 70 koala & shade trees along the Rail Trail at Yimbun Station! This planting is the first part of a larger project made possible by funding through the Queen's Jubilee Grant.

We were thrilled to have Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland Dr Jeannette Young & Professor Nimmo attend the event and plant the first tree. Thanks to Jason Murphy for conducting the welcome to country. Thanks also to Shayne Neumann MP, the Deputy Mayor and Councillors from Somerset Regional Council, Brisbane Valley Trail Users Association Inc, he Toogoolawah & District Historical Society and all those who attended to help with planting. The remainder of the trees will be planted in several events over the next year so stay tuned to our website and social media to get involved next year.
