Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page Print this page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

The Sisters of St Joseph`s received funding of $19,910 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees across the Watson Electorate, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance the tree canopy and support native wildlife.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
Sprouting Change – Planting Across Boundaries
It was a great community day at the recent launch of Sprouting Change – Planting Across Boundaries at Holy Spirit Catholic College Lakemba, New South Wales. Representatives from the Sisters of Saint Joseph, State and Federal government members, local Catholic and Public primary and secondary schools, inter-faith representatives and staff from Bunnings Greenacre gathered to celebrate the collaborative project which will see schools and the community working together to plant trees, enhance the local environment and strengthen ties across the Watson Electorate in south west Sydney.
The project [the planting of over 1,000 trees (mainly the Mary MacKillop callistemon - bottle brush) in the local area] was made possible by the energetic work of Sr Jan Barnett from the Sisters of Saint Joseph and funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program, in commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
