The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State. 

The Rotary Club of South Wagga Wagga received funding of $8,895 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. TThe project will plant native trees at Menzies Avenue Park and Henwood Park, install commemorative signs and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will reduce urban heat effects and provide shade for the community.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.  

Today South Wagga Rotary celebrated Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee with a tree planting and plaque unveiling at Menzies Ave Park adjacent to the Amy Hurd Early Learning Centre. The children's singing and dancing and KHS Yr 7 student's speeches made the event really special. District Governor Geraldine spoke about the importance of protecting our environment and how its effect would enable the accomplishment of the other 6 pillars of Rotary.
