Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
The project received funding of $11,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will encourage student and community participation, and support native wildlife. 500 native tree seedlings were planted in September 2022.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
Another 500 trees have been planted at Bolwarra Sports Complex thanks to community support in Maitland. We are well on our way to reaching 2000 trees at this site, not including understory plants. While it is unusual to be planting into summer, we are taking advantage of the wet conditions and the slope which prevents waterlogging. It was a sunny but blustery day with high winds but it didn’t stop the crowd from taking part- over 30 people pitched in to make the Queens Jubilee planting celebration a success. We gathered for morning tea and took a moment of pause to honour the late Queen Elizabeth II. We were graced with two beautiful songs by Maitland City Choir- Advance Australia Fair and “I love a Sunburnt Country by Dorothea MacKeller.
