Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth IIPrint Page Print this page

The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.

The project received funding of $15,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will enhance shade for students and provide additional habitat for native fauna.

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

The Australian Government has supported the Queen’s Jubilee Tree Planting Program in 2023 to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and to honour her life’s achievements.

Lavington Public School has been awarded grant funds to plant trees at our school. Today we planted our first tree as part of the Queen's Jubilee tree planting program, which will extend into 2023. This program will allow us to increase community awareness and celebration of
Her Majesty's Jubilee. It will create a legacy of tree plantings through our school grounds, which will increase and enhance the area of tree canopy at our school. It will allow us to plant trees to beautify our school and increase biodiversity.

The Border Mail attended the first tree planting.

Thank you to the Australian Government, Rotary Club of Albury, Hamblin Hire, Landcare NSW, Lavington Public School P&C and Mr Frank Calabria for their support and assistance in this program. Thank you also to Casey, our school canteen manager, for our beautiful morning tea.
