Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Queen Elizabeth II Platinum JubileePrint Page

The trees were planted, and a commemorative plaque unveiled, in honour of Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee and acknowledge her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State.
The project received funding of $7,000 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant an avenue of trees at Fernleigh Park, install a commemorative sign and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the local environment and enhance the tree canopy.
Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.
In 2022 Queanbeyan Landcare successfully applied for funding as part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program. The planting took place on Sunday 23 October 2022 from 9am until 11am in the vicinity of the Fernleigh Park Community Hall, located at 10 Swan Drive in Googong.
While the weather wasn't perfect, the morning resulted in the planting of several hundred native trees. Add to that, there was a great deal of enthusiasm shown by the Jerrabomberra Scout Group, with many planting a tree for the first time and learning the important role trees play in the environment.
A plaque to commemorate this event will be found attached to the Community Hall. The plaque was presented to Queanbeyan Landcare at the official ceremony held on 25 November 2022.
