A monument was erected in memory of the men who lost their lives in the Kew Cottages fire in 1996.
In 1996 tragedy struck as nine intellectually disabled men died in a fire at one of the Kew Cottages residential units. A coronial inquest found that the state had contributed to their deaths as there was no fire protection system in place at the time of the fire.
