Mareeba Air Crash Print Page 
A tree commemorates the victims of the Mareeba Air Crash of 1990.
The tragedy occurred about 5.45pm on May 11, 1990 when a small jet crashed south of Mareeba near Mt Emerald which was covered by low cloud and driving rain. The victims included nine members of local councils who were returning from a Local Government conference at Airlie Beach.
The victims were:
Shire Clerk Elwyn Phillips, Shire Chairman Harry Rankine and Councillor Graham Luxton from Herberton Shire Council, Councillors Hec Wallace and Joe Newman from Eacham Shire Council, Councillor Ivan Wilkinson from Atherton Shire Council, Mayor Keith Goodwin and Alderman Rose Blank from Cairns City Council, Councillor Bruno Riedweg from Douglas Shire Council; and Sister Nadia di Popolo and pilot Stan Lingren.
