Source: MAThis sculpture is to recognize the origins of surfing in W.A.
Yallingup, the Wardandi Aboriginal meaning of place of love, is where surfing began in the early 1950s.
The love of the ocean attracted a small band of pioneer surfers from Perth to challenge the much larger waves Yallingup offered.
It was from those humble beginnings at Yallingup that the sport of surfing in W.A. grew and evolved to what it has become today.
