Queensland Police Service - Look to the Stars Acknowledgement PlaquePrint Page Print this page

The "Look to the Stars" plaque and artwork acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands and Elders past, present and future and the significant contribution by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people towards the protection and safety of all people in our country.

The plaque features the artwork "Look to The Stars."  As we look to the stars, the Guiding Constellation lights up the sky, illuminating our way forward through trust, relationships and respect. The artwork incorporates Sir Robert Peel’s nine principles of policing as stars. The artwork was produced by Indigenous artist Jenna Lee from Gilimbaa who worked with a specialist reference group from the QPS to inform the artwork.

"Look to the Stars" was launched by the QPS in May 2018 and serves as a visual reminder of our past, present and future engagements with all Indigenous communities throughout Queensland. Former Commissioner Ian Stewart initiated a Look to the Stars ‘Acknowledgement to Country’ plaque that is gradually being placed at all QPS establishments.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll today joined Minister for Police Mark Ryan to officially open the brand-new Arundel Police Hub.

Commissioner Carroll said the new facility was a state-of-the-art, modern building. “This is an exciting moment for the Gold Coast District, as the new facility is designed to support police operations across the region,” Commissioner Carroll said. “The new complex includes a dayroom with 104 workstations and a purpose-built Dog Squad facility. “Various operational areas will be located within the facility, including the Gold Coast Rapid Action Patrol Group (RAP).”

Minister Ryan said the $11.5 million facility was a win for the Gold Coast. “The future of policing is agile, flexible and borderless and this Police Hub is well-positioned to maximise safety and response times for the Coast,” Mr Ryan said. “It’s centrally located with easy access to both the northern and southern corridors of the Gold Coast via the M1, allowing for quick response times across the city.”
