The plaque commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Mitcham School from 1847 to 1997. The plaque is located at the site of the former school which is now a community centre.

Front Inscription

This plaque commemorates the 150th anniversary of
              The Mitcham School.
Education was provided on this site continuously for 101 years.
Previously located at the Mitcham Village Reserve from 
1847 - 1870 and the Mitcham Village Institute from 1870 - 1879, 
       the School occupied this site from 1880.
In 1953, the Primary School moved to Hillview Road, 
Kingswood and was joined by the Junior Primary School 
                      in 1981.

In 1981, the City of Mitcham acquired these buildings for use as
                  a community centre.

Unveiled by Her Worship the Mayor, Yvonne Caddy
                2 November 1997.
