The plaque commemorates the centenary of Forest Reefs Public School 1882-1982. The school closed in 1990.
Walderave Public School in the county of Bathurst was established in February, 1882. In March 1920 the School was re-named Forest Reefs Public School and continued with this classification until its closure in December 1990. As a Public School it offered basic elementary courses at a primary level. There had previously been a Provisional School at Forest Reefs conducted between January and May 1871.
