This plaque commemorates the
Brighton Horticultural Society
1856 - 2010
In the 19th century `s annual shows opened by the Governor of Victoria before as many as 8000 people celebrated the magnificent private gardens, orchards, vineyards and livestock of the suburb.
In the 20th century the Society flourished with the rise of home gardens producing flowers, fruit and vegetables.
This plaque was dedicated by His Worship the Mayor Councillor Alex Del Porto in recognition of 154 years of horticulture and service to our community.
