The obelisk commemorates the holding of the Australasian Jamboree of Boy Scouts from the 29th December 1938 to 9th January 1939.
Lord Gowrie was welcomed to the Jamboree at 11.15 am on Saturday by the World Chief Scout`s representative Lord Hampton. A guard of honour composed of Scouts from Noumea, France, Kenya, Canada, and South Africa was drawn up in his honour and after it had been inspected Lord Gowrie greeted the Premier who had arrived several minutes earlier, and Boy Scout officials. Lord Gowrie was dressed in the Scout uniform as the Chief Scout of Australia. At midday he unveiled an obelisk on which were tablets commemorating the holding of the Australasian Jamboree at Bradfield.
