The Children`s Window
The re-framing and installation of this window during February 1999, brings a thirteen year project to an end.The window was placed in the original St Mary`s Church in 1872 and in the present building in 1879. When the pipe organ was installed in 1905 it was effectively hidden in the organ loft until it was re-discovered and removed in 1986. It suffered some damage which was repaired years later.
Of a primitive zinc-light style, the window commemorates nine infants from five families who lived in early Burra, hence the name "The Children`s Window".A local tradesman and parishioner has made the new frame and was helped by several others to put it into its current position for all to appreciate.
