Pioneer Park - Heritage Cemetery
The extensive redevelopment of Pioneer Park Cemetery was undertaken by the City of Mount Gambier in the period 2003 and 2004.
His Worship the Mayor, Mr Steve Perryman, unveiled this plaque on 20th May 2004 in recognition of the completion of the redevelopment.
26th August 1854 - First interment at this cemetery
20th May 1877 - Cemetery transferred to the care, control and management of Council
2004 - 50th anniversary of Mt Gambier being declared a city
Another Lions Club Project
This bronze Lions emblem is the original affixed to the entrance wall of Pioneer Park
The restoration of this early cemetery site was the first project of the Lions Club of Mount Gambier following its formation in 1963
