The memorial commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Lincoln National Park from 1941 to 1991.
Lincoln National Park is one of the state's oldest reserves, 15,830 hectares having first been declared a Flora and Fauna Reserve in 1941. The reserve was reproclaimed as a National Park under the National Parks and Wildlife Act in 1972.
