The Memorial Avenue commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.
A Report of the Parks and Gardens Committee on the inspection of Mildred Street as the site for the memorial avenue was read. It recommended that a bronze plate with the names of those who had given their lives in the late war be affixed to the present soldiers' monument, and a cairn built a indicating that it was a memorial avenue.
