On January 1942, This Small Unsupported Garrison At Rabaul, New
Britain, Was Overwhelmed By A Huge Japanese Invasion Force
In The Succeeding Months, Some Escaped To An Allied Base, 160
Were Massacred At Tol Plantation And Gasmata: Many Became
Prisoners Of War. All Other Ranks Who Were Captured, Together
With Civilians Taken Into Custody, Were Shipped Out Of Rabaul On
The "Montevideo Maru"
An Allied Submarine Sank This Unmarked Japanese Prison Ship In
July 1942. There Were No Survivors.
