Nerang Honour RollPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates those who served in World War Two. It was unveiled at the opening of the RSL Hall.
Before a large and representative gathering, Mr T. F. Plunkett, MLA, officially opened the Nerang sub-branch of the RSSAILA club rooms and unveiled the 1939-1945 honor roll at Nerang recently. Mr W. Curnow, president of the sub-branch, occupied the chair and said the club house was built by money raised by the Nerang sub-branch. Mr Plunkett had helped to get permission to erect the building on land owned by the Queensland Railway Department, and for the use of that land the sub-branch paid a nominal rental of £2/10/ per annum.
The club house was now complete and furnishings included a full-size billiard table. The club house was available as a rest room for women waiting for trains or buses- and was entirely at their disposal at all times. Mr Curnow said the honor board was presented to the branch by Mr J. Walsh, of Surfers' Paradise and his generosity was greatly appreciated. Approximately 60 names are inscribed representing all enlistments from the district in all branches of the armed forces who served in the Second World War.
