St Stephen`s Honour RollPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates members of the church who served in World War Two.
In the presence of a large congregation, including many ex-servicemen, Archdeacon H. B. Atkinson, of Launceston, unveiled and dedicated an honor roll in St. Stephen's Church on Sunday evening. The roll, which was given by a well-known Wynyard family, as a thank-offering, bears the names of 142 members of the church who fought in the last war. Five made the supreme sacrifice. The Archdeacon recalled our debt of gratitude to men of the Services, and said that "God had saved us for a purpose." He appealed for a better spirit of cooperation among the peoples of the world, and from Christians a deeper sense of personal dedication to the cause of Christ. The Service was fully choral, and Miss R. Gilmour was organist.
Advocate (Burnie, Tas.), 29 October 1946.
Note: The “Tasmanian War Memorials Data Base” , compiled by Fred Thornett which is located at the State Library of Tasmania, contains a comprehensive listing of the names on this honour roll.
