The wooden honour roll commemorates those from the Municipality who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.

The Governor (Sir Ronald Cross) in his first official visit to Penguin yesterday performed a triple ceremony in opening the town's war memorial. He set the foundation stone of the library and women's rest room, unveiled a tablet in memory of those from the municipality who served in the Second World War, and unveiled the honour roll.

The ceremony was attended by about 1,000 including more than 500 school children.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
