North Esk Honour RollPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates those who served in World War Two. It lists 38 names.
"To-day in the world there are ominous clouds rising day by day. The ideal for which our heroes fought is being threatened," said the State Treasurer (Mr. Madden) at Blessington last night. He was speaking at the unveiling of an honour roll to members of the services who left Blessington district for the 1939-45 war. The ceremony was held in the North Esk Memorial Hall and took the form of a concert and dance. Though he was to have unveiled the honour roll, Mr. Madden requested that Mrs. W. H. Rothall, mother of one of the men from the Blessington district who was killed in action, should perform the ceremony.
Star item of the evening was provided by a toddler, Gay Rushton, from Roses Tier, who scored a terrific hit with "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts."
Examiner (Launceston) 16th September 1950.
Note : the “Tasmanian War Memorials Data Base” , compiled by Fred Thornett which is located at the State Library of Tasmania, contains a comprehensive listing of the names on this honour roll.
