Owen District Roll of HonourPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates those from the Owen District who served in World War Two.
A committee of five has been formed to finalise arrangements for the erection of an Honor Roll for Owen. Members are Messrs. Oliver Reid, C. L. Marshman, J. I. Williams, I. M. Parker, and J. Bormann. The cost of the memorial, to be erected in the institute, will be met by public subscription with the Council contributing 5/- per name. Wunderlich will be used. Committeeman Mr. Bormann said this week that the meeting, attended by about 20 ratepayers, had decided to include the names of all those who volunteered and were accepted for overseas service. Care would be taken not to include names already placed on other Honor Rolls in the district. An amendment to add the names of militia personnel who served in recognised theatres of war was easily defeated. The committee expects to hold its first meeting early in October when the task of compiling the lists of eligible ex-servicemen will be begun.
