District Council of Bute Honour RollPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates those who served in World War Two.
At the meeting of the Bute Council on Monday last, Cr. Ramsey, after a price for a honor roll had been received, said it was the duty of ratepayers to show some appreciation of the services rendered by those who had served in World War 2. Cr. Bruce stated that Alford had erected one at the tennis courts for Alford personnel, and Cr. Penna said that one had been placed in the Kulpara church. Cr. Tregove said he was sure there were plenty of people in the Bute Council area who would be pleased to contribute towards a honor roll for the whole district, and he and other Councillors expressed their desire to do so.
He moved "that the tender of Clarksons Ltd., of £151 for a Honor Roll be accepted, and that Council at a later date, consider making a special function for the unveiling of same when "completed." Cr. Penna seconded, and Ihe motion was carried unanimously. The Chairman reported that there were 200 names received for insertion on the roll, and enquired if there was to be special mention of those who had made the supreme sacrifice and those who had won distinctions.
