Memorial Swimming PoolPrint Page
A pool commemorates those who served in World War Two.
In a systematic canvas of Warracknabeal over one weekend, about £2020 was collected for the World War 2 Memorial Swimming Pool. With wheat and cash donations made previously, the progressive total of the pool is now £4,500 collected in just two months. The full scale canvas of the town was highly successful. It was carried out by about 150 volunteer collectors who worked swiftly in teams. Total donations from Warracknabeal are expected to total £2,500 when residents who are holidaying return home and are contacted. Most of the town has been canvassed. Reports were made by collectors at a meeting of about 50 in the Town Hall. Acting President Mr. G. Lyles said the response by residents to the appeal had been most satisfactory. Collecting in country districts has not yet been completed. Farmers will be visited as soon as possible. The direct appeal for the pool will then be finished and the pool committee will consider other ways to raise money.
