Nursing Service & W.A.A.A.F. R.A.A.F. : 25-September-2011
Photographs supplied by Kent Watson
The plaque commemorates those who served with the Nursing Service of the Royal Australian Air Force and the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force (W.A.A.A.F.) during World War Two.
The Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force was formed in March 1941 after considerable lobbying by women keen to serve and by the Chief of the Air Staff who wanted to release male personnel serving in Australia for service overseas. The W.A.A.A.F. was the largest of the World War Two women's services. It was disbanded in December 1947.
