The plaque commemorates H.M.A.S. Kuttabul which was sunk during the Japanese submarine attack on Sydney Harbour on on 31 May 1942 during World War Two. There were with naval personnel aboard when she was sunk.
H.M.A.S. Kuttabul was a Royal Australian Navy depot ship, converted from a Sydney Ferries Limited ferry.
