Rosebery War MemorialPrint Page Print this page

The War Memorial is a sundial commemorating those from the district who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two.

"The men of the Second World War proved themselves worthy sons of the Anzacs," the Premier, Mr. McKell, said at the unveiling of a war memorial in El Alamein Reserve, Rosebery. The memorial, a sundial, was erected by the Rosebery A.I.F. Auxiliary Fund, and engraven on it are the names of the 16 men who enlisted from Rosebery and died in the war. Relatives of the fallen men placed wreaths on the memorial, and the "Last Post" and "Reveille" were sounded by a young bugler. "To-day, Anzac Day has an added significance, because it not only commemorates the deeds of the men of the first world war, but also of those of the last war," said Mr. McKell. These men added lustre to the name Anzac. They added Kokoda, El Alamein, Milne Bay, and many other battlefields. "We have a great country to develop, and it is for each of us to make a contribution towards the national welfare, retaining all the highest principles for which Australian sailors, soldiers, and airmen died."
