Mungindi War Memorial ClubPrint Page
The Mungindi War Memorial Club was erected in memory of those from the district who served in World War Two.
Since the conclusion of the last war, the efforts of the Mungindi Sub-branch R.S.L. have been directed towards the erection of a Memorial Club. This has now come to fruition and a well-appointed club building is now nearing completion in the main street of the town. The total cost of land, buildings and furnishings will exceed £10,000 and the edifice will be a credit to the district. Most of the funds have been raised by donations and the purchase of debentures, and the R.S.L. is now appealing for further assistance in that direction. So far many liberal gifts and loans have been forth coming and it is anticipated that the project will be well supported on the opening day. The opening date is fixed for Friday, June 19, 1953, at 3 p.m., when Lieut-General Gordon Bennett will officially perform the ceremony. A holiday for the Mungindi district is to be gazetted that day and large crowds are expected. The Annual Diggers' Ball will be held that night at which General Bennett will receive debutantes.
