Glendon & District Roll of HonourPrint Page
The marble roll of honour commemorates those from Glendon and Kirkton district who served in World War Two.
A Roll of Honour to commemorate the service in World War II, of 44 men and four women of the Glendon and Kirkton districts has been unveiled at Glendon Hall. Mrs. A. E. Vickers, mother of one of the three men from the district who fell, carried out the unveiling, before one of the largest crowds which has been assembled in the hall. The Honour Roll, made locally, faces the 1914-18 tablet on the opposite wall, which bears the names of 23 returned soldiers of the Glendon and Kirkton districts, and of 10 who paid the supreme sacrifice.
The inscribed tablet bearing the names of district ex-service men, was prepared by a joint Glendon - Kirkton committee formed from the districts patriotic and comforts fund. Both districts subscribed fully and loyally to its cost. The roll includes the names of four ex-servicewomen.
