Eureka Honour Roll Print Page
The honour roll commemorates those from the district who served in World War Two.
There was a good attendance at the unveiling of the Honour Roll for Eureka and district servicemen. A musical programme was rendered by the following artists: Vocal solo, Miss Marie Mackie; recitation Miss E. Murphy; solo, Mr. Trevor Keevers; recitation; Miss Muriel Gallagher; solo, Miss Margaret Collings. Mr. G. W. Tate, President of Eureka Patriotic Committee, occupied the chair. He extended a welcome to the men whose names were on the roll. The speakers were the President of Byron Shire, Rev. Monsen, Rev. Ingate, Rev. Miller, and Cr. E. Walker. Two minutes silence was observed. The President introduced Mrs. E. Strong and invited her to unveil the Honour Roll. The President of Byron Shire congratulated the servicemen on the work they had achieved. Cr. E. Walker supported the remarks. Rev. Monsen said he appreciated being associated with the night of remembrance. With a spirit of thanksgiving, he said, we should dedicate our lives to God for his goodness in bringing us safely through the war. Rev. Ingate said he felt honoured to take part and that we should show our gratitude to God for the safe return of all the men. "Our duty to these men does not end here but will remain till the end of our lives. We should try to rehabilitate these men in the practical way," he said. Rev. Miller also stressed the need for thanksgiving to God. Mr. E. Burke, secretary of the Patriotic Committee, also spoke. Mr. S Murphy moved a vote of thanks to the committee. Mr. Tate replied. Supper was served by the women.
