The plaques commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Victory in the Pacific which ended World War Two and were unveiled at the site of the former Shepherd`s Hill Radar Station. 

The plaques which were presented by No. 3 Control and Reporting Unit, the Radar Air Defence Branch RAAFA, and the Naval Association of Newcastle, give details of the radar site.

The First Operational Radar Was Located On This Site From
10th January 1942 Until 19th April 1942.
After The Radar Was Moved, The Building Was Handed
Back To The Army For Shore Defence Duties.
  The Radar Used Was A CD/CHL.
