Sandalwood Roll of HonourPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates those who served in World War Two.
An Honour Roll has been installed in the Sandalwood Hall with 17 names inscribed on it. At the unveiling function, Mr. Grant was chairman and he asked Mrs. Kennett to unveil the roll. Mrs. Kennett had three sons at the war, two returned, but Murray, the youngest, died while a prisoner of war in Japanese hands. Mr. Shilton spoke for the district council and the general public. Mr. Knight (president) and Mr. Lewis (secretary) of the Karoonda Sub-branch of the RSL, also spoke.
Two returned men Messrs. E. H. Matthiessen and H. Wattchow, thanked the people for their kind thoughts of remembrance. The two minutes' silence, and the singing of the Song of Australia and the National Anthem followed. Dancing followed the ceremony.
